We store nothing about you - not your name, number or email. Just one anonymous tick for your area. How the count works.

Who is Choose Jozi?
Choose Jozi is a group of Joburgers who care about this city. Not a party. Not a candidate. Just people who believe Johannesburg is worth showing up for - and that it only gets better when more of us do.
We make the city easier to understand: who runs what, where the money goes, and how to have your say. In 2026 we filmed 400+ street interviews across Joburg, explained local government one word at a time, and built a roll call that over 1,900 Joburgers joined before the local elections.
On 4 November, Jozi showed up. Now we're following up.
I choose Jozi.
Choose Jozi is a group of Joburgers who care about this city. Not a party. Not a candidate. Just people who believe Johannesburg is worth showing up for - and that it only gets better when more of us do.
Right now, the most important thing any of us can do for Jozi is show up on 4 November 2026 and make our mark. It's the one day the city has to hear from everyone who lives in it - about the lights, the water, the roads, the streets we walk every day. Sit it out, and someone else decides for you.
So we're building the biggest roll call this city has seen. Every tap on this page is one Joburger saying: I'll be there. Get your number, share your card, and bring the people you know.
On 4 November, choose Jozi.

It doesn't end on 4 November
Voting hires the council. These five keep an eye on it. Most people only know the first one - now you know six.
One X
- What
- Two ballots: one for your ward councillor (a person), one for a party.
Easy first stepCheck where you're registered: SMS your ID number to 32810 (R1), or WhatsApp "Hi" to 0600 88 0000. Moved house? Update your address before the next election.
How it works
- How
- Show your green ID book, smart ID card or temporary ID certificate, get your thumb inked, then mark each ballot with one X in private.
- Where
- Only at the voting station where you are registered - local elections have no voting elsewhere.
- Why
- It decides who runs the city for the next five years.
One seat
- What
- Your ward committee: the ward councillor plus 10 residents, each covering an area like housing, safety, health or transport.
Easy first stepSMS your ID number to 32245 (R1) to get your ward and your ward councillor. Save both in your phone - every other step on this page starts there.
How it works
- How
- Watch joburg.org.za for the City's call for nominations in the months after the election. Get a form from your region's Ward Governance Office. Two registered voters in your ward nominate you, and you must live and be registered in the ward.
- Where
- In your own ward, at ward meetings.
- Why
- It is the closest seat to council any resident can hold.
One paragraph
- What
- Comment on the City's budget and its five-year plan, the IDP.
Easy first stepSet a phone reminder for April: "Joburg budget". When the draft opens, send one paragraph about your street through joburg.org.za.
How it works
- How
- Each year the City opens its draft plan and budget for comment (in 2026: 30 March to 18 May). Comment online through the link on joburg.org.za, at a regional meeting, or in the marked box at your regional office.
- Where
- Regional meetings, online, or a City regional office.
- Why
- Projects that are not in the plan do not get money.
One number
- What
- Joburg Connect, the City's 24/7 call centre.
Easy first stepSave 0860 56 28 74 as "Joburg Connect" in your phone today. Next time something breaks, you're one call away from a reference number.
How it works
- How
- Call 0860 56 28 74 or email joburgconnect@joburg.org.za and ask for a reference number.
- Where
- Send that reference number to your ward councillor.
- Why
- A reference number is evidence. A post in a WhatsApp group is not.
One visit
- What
- A council meeting, where councillors debate and vote.
Easy first stepStart from your couch: council meetings stream live on the City of Joburg's YouTube channel and Facebook page. Watch one, then pick one to attend in person and take a friend.
How it works
- How
- Check the council meeting schedule on joburg.org.za. Meetings are open to the public, but space is limited - let the Speaker's office know you're coming before the day.
- Where
- The Constance Connie Bapela Council Chamber at the Metropolitan Centre, Braamfontein.
- Why
- You see who shows up, who speaks for your area and how they vote.
One report
- What
- The Auditor-General's yearly audit of every municipality. The latest came out on 24 June 2026.
Easy first stepRead the AG's media statement (link below, about five minutes), then ask your ward councillor one question about it.
How it works
- How
- Find Joburg in the local government (MFMA) report. In 2024-25 no metro got a clean audit, and the City's own accounts slipped to a qualified opinion.
- Where
- agsa.co.za
- Why
- It shows whether the City can account for the public money it spent.
